What an immersion is
A yoga immersion gives your days a single focus. Mornings usually begin early with asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing); later come meditation, talks on yoga philosophy, and often chanting or kirtan in the evening.
Some retreats include periods of silence — a quiet morning, or whole silent days. Classical ten-day silent meditation courses are also available in India through established organisations, and your concierge can help with the travel around them.
Choosing a place
Ashrams and schools on the Ganges in the Himalayan foothills; the evening Ganga Aarti; the International Yoga Festival each March.
The home of the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition; a city base for committed, daily practice.
Beach retreats in the dry season (roughly November to March), often with a softer schedule.
Retreats in Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Ladakh for quiet, altitude and mountain walks.
Teacher training
Many schools run structured teacher-training courses of about four weeks. Schools set their own syllabus and certification; check which certification the course leads to and who will be teaching before you book. We can help you compare schools and handle the visa, travel and stay.

Questions guests ask
Which is better for yoga, Rishikesh or Mysuru?
Rishikesh suits guests who want an ashram atmosphere, variety and the river and mountains. Mysuru suits committed practitioners of Ashtanga who want daily practice in a city.
Are ashrams comfortable?
Ashrams range from simple to comfortable. Many have shared facilities and strict timetables. We also work with retreats that offer private rooms and more flexibility.
What should I wear?
Loose, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, especially in Rishikesh and at temples. Bring layers for early mornings in winter.
