A tradition of care
Sutika Paricharya is the name Ayurveda gives to the care of a mother after childbirth. Across India, families still follow versions of it: rest, warmth, daily oil massage for mother and baby, and special foods to help her recover her strength.
A postnatal stay offers this in a calm setting, with a woman physician, women therapists and help with the practical side, so that the mother can rest.
What it can include
With a woman physician, who coordinates with your own doctor.
Daily warm-oil massage for the mother.
Traditional oil massage for the baby, taught to you by the therapist, if your paediatrician agrees.
Warm, nourishing meals and traditional postnatal preparations.
Support so that you can sleep.

Questions guests ask
How soon after birth can I start?
That is your obstetrician’s decision, and depends on your delivery and recovery. Many families begin once the mother and baby are cleared to travel.
Can my partner stay?
Yes. Partners and relatives are welcome, and many centres offer family rooms.
