Warm-oil massage and the steady stream of oil across the forehead — two of Ayurveda’s best-known therapies, often at the heart of a calming stay.
- Tradition: Ayurveda
- Length: Within a stay of usually 7–14 days
- Price: Confirmed by the centre in writing
- Before booking: Practitioner video consultation
Abhyanga
Abhyanga is a full-body massage with warm herbal oil chosen for your constitution. In the Kerala style, two therapists often work in rhythm on either side of you. It is usually followed by steam and a warm bath. In Ayurveda, daily self-massage is part of the ideal routine, and many centres teach you how to continue it at home.
Shirodhara
In Shirodhara you lie on a wooden table while a thin, continuous stream of warm oil is poured across your forehead from a vessel swinging gently above you. A session commonly lasts between half an hour and an hour, and is often given as a series on consecutive days.
Variations use other liquids: Takradhara uses medicated buttermilk and Ksheeradhara uses medicated milk. The physician chooses which.
A stay built around rest
A stress-and-sleep stay pairs these therapies with a steady daily rhythm: regular meals, yoga nidra, breathing practice, time outdoors and a gentle evening routine with fewer screens. The aim is a routine you can take home, not only a week away.

Questions guests ask
What does Shirodhara feel like?
Most guests describe it as deeply relaxing — warm and rhythmic. You lie still with your eyes covered, and many people fall asleep.
Can I have Abhyanga during a short stay?
Yes. Single sessions are widely available, but a series within a stay of a week or more is more typical, and lets the physician adjust the oils.
Will my hair be oily afterwards?
Yes, for a while. Centres provide herbal powders to wash out the oil; plan a quiet afternoon after Shirodhara.
