Why Kerala

Kerala has an unusually deep Ayurvedic culture. Traditional physician families — the ashtavaidyas — kept the practice alive for centuries, and the state still has many Ayurveda colleges, hospitals and herb gardens. Therapies such as Pizhichil, Njavarakizhi and Shirodhara are strongly associated with its traditions.

The state’s tourism department classifies resort Ayurveda centres as Green Leaf or Olive Leaf, a useful extra check alongside licences and NABH AYUSH accreditation.

When to go

Kerala has two moods. October to March is dry, sunny and comfortable, and the most popular time to visit. June to September is the south-west monsoon. Ayurveda traditionally values it: the cool, humid air is said to open the body to therapies, and the Malayalam month of Karkidakam (about mid-July to mid-August) is a traditional season for rejuvenation programmes. April and May are hot and humid.

Questions guests ask

Is the monsoon a good time for Ayurveda in Kerala?

Many physicians think so, and Karkidakam (about mid-July to mid-August) is a traditional season for rejuvenation. Expect heavy rain and fewer outdoor excursions; the therapies themselves continue indoors.

Which airport should I fly to?

Kochi (COK) has the most international connections, including many Gulf flights. Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) suits the southern beaches, and Kozhikode (CCJ) the north.

How far is Kerala from Delhi?

About three hours by direct flight. Guests treated at our Delhi NCR partner hospitals can fly on to Kerala once cleared.
