Why Mysuru
In the 1930s, under the patronage of the Maharaja of Mysore, T. Krishnamacharya taught yoga at the Jaganmohan Palace. Among his students were K. Pattabhi Jois, whose Ashtanga Vinyasa method is now taught around the world, and B.K.S. Iyengar.
Today the Gokulam and nearby neighbourhoods are home to shalas where students from many countries come for daily, disciplined practice, often for a month or more.
When to go
Mysuru is mild for much of the year. October to March is the most pleasant. The ten-day Dasara festival, in September or October, lights up the palace and the city. April and May are warm; the monsoon from June to September is moderate.

Questions guests ask
Do I need experience to practise in Mysuru?
Traditional Ashtanga shalas often expect some experience. Beginners are welcome at many other schools, and we can find a gentler setting.
Can I combine Mysuru with Ayurveda?
Yes. Karnataka has Ayurveda centres, and Kerala is a short flight or drive away.
