What the AYUSH visa is

In 2023, India introduced a dedicated visa category for foreign nationals coming for treatment in its traditional systems — Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homeopathy. It sits alongside the medical visa, and is intended for treatment at recognised centres and hospitals.

Published guidance describes two categories: the AYUSH visa for the guest receiving treatment, and the AYUSH Attendant visa for accompanying family members. For eligible nationalities, both can be applied for online as e-AYUSH visas.

Always check the official source

Validity, number of entries, permitted length of stay, fees and eligible countries are set by the Government of India and can change. Check them on the official Indian visa portal before you apply. This page is guidance, not legal advice. indianvisaonline.gov.in

Which visa fits your plan?

A course of AYUSH treatment

A physician-led programme such as Panchakarma, or treatment at an AYUSH hospital — the purpose the AYUSH visa was created for.

A short retreat or holiday

A yoga holiday or spa-style stay may fall within a tourist visa. Check the official rules for your case.

Surgery followed by a recovery stay

Your main purpose is medical treatment, so you would usually start from the medical visa. Ask your coordinator how to cover the recovery stay.

Yoga teacher training

Structured courses can have their own requirements. Check before you book, and ask your concierge.

How to apply, step by step

  1. 1
    Choose your centre and plan

Your concierge shortlists centres, you have a video consultation, and you confirm a plan in writing.

  2. 2
    Get the centre’s letter

The centre issues a letter on its letterhead describing the programme and dates. Your concierge checks it before you apply.

  3. 3
    Apply online

Apply on the official e-Visa portal (or at an Indian mission if e-Visa is not available for your passport). Upload your photo, passport page and the centre’s letter.

  4. 4
    Receive your visa

Approval comes by email for e-Visas. Print it and carry it with your passport.

  5. 5
    Arrive and register if required

Some longer stays require registration with the immigration authorities after arrival. Your concierge tells you if this applies and helps with it.

Documents usually requested

  • A passport valid for at least six months from arrival, with at least two blank pages
  • A recent passport-style photograph with a white background
  • A scan of your passport’s photo page
  • The letter from your AYUSH centre or hospital
  • Your travel dates and the address where you will stay
  • For attendants: proof of relationship may be requested

How we help

Your concierge confirms the right visa category for your plan and passport, checks the centre’s letter, reviews your application before you submit, and plans your arrival. We do not submit visa applications on your behalf, and the decision always rests with the Government of India.
