Why Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is where the Siddha tradition lives, in the Tamil language and in its own texts. The National Institute of Siddha is in Tambaram, Chennai, and Siddha physicians practise across the state.
The state’s great temple towns — Madurai, Thanjavur, Kanchipuram — and the quiet communities around neighbouring Puducherry and Auroville draw guests interested in yoga and meditation. In the west, the Nilgiri hills around Coimbatore and Ooty offer cooler retreats.
When to go
December to February is the most comfortable. The north-east monsoon brings rain to the coast from about October to December, and April to June is hot, especially on the plains. The hills are pleasant from March to June.
