What a teacher-training course is
Most foundational courses are around 200 hours of study over about four weeks, and advanced courses around 300 hours. The syllabus usually covers asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy (including the Yoga Sutras), anatomy and the practice of teaching.
Certification is set by the school. Many schools register their courses with international yoga bodies; in India, the Ministry of AYUSH’s Yoga Certification Board also certifies yoga professionals. Check what your course leads to before you book, especially if you want to teach in a particular country.
Choosing a school
Who teaches most of the hours, and for how long they have taught.
Smaller groups mean more feedback on your teaching.
Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar-influenced or mixed.
Which body recognises the course, if any.
Rishikesh ashrams, Mysuru shalas or Goa beach schools.
How we help
We do not run courses. We help you compare schools, check the visa you need for a structured course, arrange flights, transfers and a comfortable stay, and are there if anything goes wrong.
