What is Angioplasty with Stenting?
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. A tiny balloon is threaded through blood vessels to the blockage site and inflated to widen the artery. A stent—a small mesh tube—is then placed to keep the artery open permanently. This restores normal blood flow, relieves chest pain, and can be life-saving during a heart attack.
The Procedure (Already Minimally Invasive)
Performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Small incision made in wrist or groin to access an artery. Thin catheter guided through blood vessels to the heart using X-ray imaging. Balloon is inflated at the blockage site and stent is deployed. Procedure typically takes 1-3 hours. Hospital stay: 1-2 days.
