Clinical Overview & Background
Dr Vivek Vij is Chairman and Director of liver transplant and hepato-biliary sciences for the Fortis group, consulting at Fortis Hospital in Noida and Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram. He previously worked at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and published the first series from the Indian subcontinent on laparoscopic donor hepatectomy in the journal Liver Transplantation.
What he treats
Living donor and deceased donor liver transplantation in adults and children, laparoscopic donor hepatectomy, and surgery of the liver, pancreas and biliary tract.
Laparoscopic donor surgery
In a living donor transplant, part of a healthy donor's liver is removed and implanted. Taking that graft laparoscopically, through small incisions rather than an open incision, is offered where the donor's anatomy allows it. Whether it is suitable is decided on the donor's own imaging, so ask the team about the donor and the recipient as two separate assessments.
What to prepare
The hospital will want recent liver function tests, viral markers, cross-sectional imaging of the abdomen on disc, endoscopy reports and the record of any decompensation. Indian law requires documentary proof of the donor-recipient relationship and clearance from the hospital's authorisation committee before a living donor transplant can proceed. Start that paperwork before you book travel.
How Massvaa Care helps
We send your reports to the hospital, return the consultant's written opinion and an itemised estimate on hospital letterhead, and coordinate the visa invitation, arrival and accommodation. We do not give medical opinions and we do not take a share of your treatment cost. You pay the hospital directly.
Consultation slots and operating dates are set by the hospital, not by us. Ask the treating team directly about its own case volumes and expected outcomes for your condition: those are answers only the hospital can give.
